Kalanchoes are succulent plants with
flat, glossy, green leaves. Kalanchoes
will also bloom with small pretty
flowers in shades of reds, pinks,
oranges, and yellows. Kalanchoes are
easy to care for, but getting them
to re-bloom can be difficult. To re-flower,
kalanchoes require short days. This
can be stimulated by placing the kalanchoe
in total darkness for 12-14 hours
a day for 6 weeks during the early
fall. Another method of developing
flowers is to let the kalanchoe rest
during the winter, and cutting back
on water and fertilizer. This may
produce some flowers in the spring.
