The
cactus family is very large and contains
many familiar species. Cacti are natives
of the Americas where they evolved
in dry, hot deserts. For this reason,
cacti should be kept dry and watered
infrequently. Cacti are very easy
to care for, and need very little
attention. However, rot may develop
if the soil becomes too wet, or if
the humidity is too high. Many cactus
species produce breathtakingly beautiful
flowers if give the proper amount
of light and a cool winter period,
however they will not bloom until
they are mature, and most are very
slow-growing.
Warning:
The sharp spines on cacti can cause
injury. Use think leather gloves,
or folded paper to handle cacti.
